Description
Brookside is a house with origins dating back to the late 17th century. It was deepened and refronted in the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from squared rubble with stone dressings and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays.
The central entrance has plain jambs, moulded impost blocks, and a basket-arched lintel. On the ground floor, there are former three-light flat faced mullioned windows on either side, which now have only one mullion repositioned in the center, fitted with sashes that include glazing bars. The upper floor has two three-light flat faced mullioned windows and a central single-light window, with 20th-century casements. The gable ends have ridge stacks.
At the rear, there is a right-hand ground floor former three-light chamfered mullioned window, although the mullion is now missing, and it has 20th-century casements. There are remains of a two-light mullioned window to the left. Inside, a reused datestone inscribed 'RW/1687' has been found within the upper floor chimney and is now repositioned in the dining room. This house was divided into two cottages in the early 19th century but has since been reconverted into a single dwelling.
