Description

Town Head Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1720, with origins from the 17th century and alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The building has three storeys and four bays. The left-hand entrance features a plain surround and a 20th-century door. All windows are fitted with 20th-century casements. The second bay includes a projecting two-storey gabled porch, which has a central entrance with a moulded surround and a segmental headed lintel displaying the initials R I A and the date 1720, along with a hoodmould. The upper floor of the porch features a late 17th-century three-light chamfered window with a hoodmould. Above this window is a triangular arrangement of pigeon holes, which are now blocked and partly concealed by a slate sundial dated 1740 with an iron gnomon. To the right of the porch are two 17th-century ground floor chamfered windows, one with four lights and the other with two lights. The original chamfered mullions have been replaced by 18th-century flat-faced mullions, both with hoodmoulds. On the first floor, there are three early 18th-century two-light flat-faced mullioned windows with moulded surrounds, and on the second floor, there are three similar but smaller windows with chamfered surrounds. The building features quoins and shaped kneelers, as well as a gable end and two ridge stacks. The interior is not accessible.
