Description
Newby Cote Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with earlier origins from the early 18th century and some 20th-century alterations. The building is rendered with painted stone dressings and features a 20th-century tile roof. It has a central staircase plan and stands two storeys high with three bays. The central entrance has a plain surround and cornice with cyma reversa moulding, leading to a 20th-century door. On the ground floor, there are windows to the left and right with plain surrounds and 16-pane sashes. The upper floor has two similar windows, with the left-hand window being narrower; all are sashes. The building also has quoins and gable-end ridge stacks. To the right, there is a set-back wing made of slobbered rubble, which is two storeys high and one bay wide. Inside, there is a painted stone fireplace with pilasters, a base, and impost blocks, featuring a flat arch inscribed with "B 1729 G M" (Giles and Maria Batty) on three imitation voussoirs, along with a cyma recta cornice. The dog-leg staircase has a closed string and two turned balusters per tread.
