Description

Town Head Barn is a 17th-century barn dated 1675, constructed from slobbered rubble with stone dressings and a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and two bays. The waggon entrance, located to the right of the centre, features a chamfered surround and a segmented head, with a moulded keystone that is dated and inscribed: R T I. The entrance has plank doors. Massive corbels are present, notched to support a hood, which has been replaced in the 20th century. To the right, there is another entrance with a chamfered surround and a flat head, leading to a plank stable door. The upper floor includes loft entrances on both the left and right, each with slate lintels and plank doors. The front of the barn also has several breathers, most of which are now blocked, and a left-hand kneeler. There are two extensions to the right; the first has a 20th-century window and a circa 17th-century entrance with a chamfered surround, along with a similar surround for a loft entrance that is slightly lower than the main barn's loft. On the extreme right, there is a 19th-century lean-to.
