Description
Beacon Light is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with early 18th century and 20th century alterations. It is built of slobbered rubble with stone dressing and features a stone slate roof. The cottage has a two-room plan and is two storeys high with three bays. The right-hand side has a gabled entrance porch with an early 18th century surround, a basket-arched lintel, and a 20th century plank door. Above the entrance is a datestone inscribed with "IWM/1726".
On the ground floor, there are two windows: the left is a former two-light chamfered mullioned window with the mullion now missing, and the right is a former three-light chamfered mullioned window, also with missing mullions; both have slate hoodmoulds and 20th century casements. The upper floor has three windows: the left and the right of center are former two-light chamfered mullioned windows with missing mullions and 20th century casements, while the right-hand window is a 17th century chamfered window with a round-headed lintel and a fixed light. There is a ridge stack located to the left of center.
Inside, there is a 17th century stone window staircase and a reset early 18th century moulded stone surround to the fireplace, with a lintel decorated with an imitation keystone and a pulvinated frieze.
