Description

Austwick Hall is a house dating from the 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It has an L-shaped plan with a central staircase in the main block. The building is constructed of slobbered rubble with stone dressings and features a slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has three bays, with the left-hand bay projecting forward.

The central entrance is framed by a Tuscan porch, which was enclosed in the late 19th century using rockfaced stone. The entrance features plank doors and a rectangular fanlight. To the right of the entrance, there are remains of a blocked late 17th-century entrance with a moulded surround. The 19th-century windows have plain surrounds, with two on the ground floor and three on the upper floor, all featuring sashes with glazing bars, except for the window above the porch, which has six-pane sashes. There are also two small upper floor casement windows to the right of centre, one of which has a reused 17th-century chamfered surround. The building retains several blocked 17th-century windows from a former third storey. The eaves are shaped with modillions, and there are gable end and central ridge stacks. The projecting wing has a hipped roof. It is reputed that the building has origins as a possible 16th-century peel tower.

The interior is not accessible.
