Description
The Statue of the Haymaker and its pedestal, located approximately 35 metres north of The Priory, dates from the early 18th century and was restored around 1985 by Andrew Naylor. The sculptor remains unknown. The statue is made of lead and stands on an ashlar pedestal, reaching an overall height of 2.75 metres, featuring a lifesize figure of a bearded Haymaker who carries a scythe over his left shoulder. The pedestal is rectangular with a moulded base and cornice. It is important to note that the statue is not in its original position and is part of a group of early 18th-century lead statues.
