SETTLE VICTORIA STREET (east side) Primrose House and No. 1 (The Cottage) School Hill (formerly listed as House adjoining on North side the row of 3 houses adjoining Fells Farm).

GV II

Farmhouse, now house and flat. Dated 1664. Refronted in C18. Stucco stone dressings stone slate roof. 3 storeys 3 bays. C17 central entrance was later heightened; moulded surround and decorated hood with date and initials IWE. All windows are C18 but some reuse C17 chamfered surrounds; all contain sahes with glazing bars. Left-hand window on ground and first gloor has moulded surrond. Right-hand ground floor window is 2 light and mullioned. The remaining windows are 1 light. Left-hand gable end ridge stack. Interior: left hand room has late C18 panelling with fluted Doric pilasters to fire surround. Semi-circular backed wall cupboard in similar style with Roman Doric frieze of triglyphs, guttae and rams skulls, 5 panel door. Plaster ceiling has 4 rosettes each within a circle, and two strips of bayleaf decoration. Right-hand room has inglenook fireplace with segmental head of 14 voussoirs and bead moulding. 2 chamfered beams with stops. Third floor is now a separate flat known as No. 1 School Hill.
