Description
The garden cottage located to the southwest of Birkby Manor is a late 18th century and 19th century building that originally served as an outbuilding. It is constructed of red brick and features pantile roofs with a single gable stack and ashlar coped gables. The north front has a central round arch that has been bricked in, with an off-centre 19th century four-panel door. To the left, there is a large garage doorway with double plank doors, and to the right, a glazing bar sash window. The gabled west front includes a two-light glazing bar sliding sash window to the right, with two narrow plain sashes above. The rear wing contains privies or earth closets, with one accessible from the east (garden) front and the other from the west (cottage) front. This building is included in the listing for its group value.
