Description
Birkby House and Birkby Cottage are two adjoining houses built in the early 19th century. They feature painted stucco walls with angle pilasters and an eaves cornice, set on a chamfered plinth. The roofs are made of graduated greenslate, with Birkby Cottage having a hipped roof and both houses featuring stucco chimney stacks.
Birkby House is two storeys tall with three bays and has a single-storey, single-bay wing to the left, making it the higher of the two houses. It has a panelled door set within a Doric doorcase, and the windows are modern plastic casements with glazing bars in painted stone surrounds. The wing includes a Venetian window.
Birkby Cottage has a modern door with side lights within an Ionic doorcase. It features sash windows with glazing bars, including a double sash window above the entrance. Additionally, a modern garage door in Birkby Cottage is part of Birkby House.
