Description
The icehouse, located approximately 8 metres north-east of Newton-Kyme Hall, dates from the 19th century but incorporates earlier materials. It is constructed from magnesian limestone and features a wall that is approximately 6 metres long and 1.75 metres high. The central entrance includes a low, studded door beneath an earlier lintel that is inscribed with the Fairfax motto 'FARE FAC'. The structure has an earth roof. Inside, it is locally known as 'Black Tom's Well'.
