Description

The icehouse in Castle Ashby Park is a structure from the mid-18th century, possibly with earlier origins. It is constructed of limestone rubble with limestone dressings. The entrance front features a pediment and a doorway with stop-moulded jambs, which may be re-used, and a flat-arched head. A short tunnel leads to a domed chamber that is partly built within the east end of the dam between the Park and Menagerie ponds. Castle Ashby Park and gardens are recognized in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Register of Parks and Gardens for Northamptonshire at Grade I.
