Description

This sundial, located approximately 3 metres south of the south-west range of Newburgh Priory, dates from the mid-18th century. The dial was crafted by Henry Hindley, a clockmaker from York. It features an ashlar sandstone stem and a bronze dial with a gnomon. The sundial is supported by two square stone steps with shaped nosing, leading up to a square base that has a cylindrical shape adorned with garlands and a fluted capital, resembling a column base. The dial is signed "Hindley York."
