Description
The gates and gate piers on the west side of the road opposite the main gateway at Newburgh Park were likely built in the early 18th century for the 4th Viscount Fauconberg. They feature ashlar sandstone piers and wrought-iron gates. The piers are designed as pilasters attached to the front of a brick field wall, consisting of five pulvinated bands with a square base. The plain capitals are topped with bow-shaped capstones, which may have been replaced. The paired gates include square bars and lower bars with inverted-V finials. The gates are adorned with scrollwork volutes and leaves at the top, while the closing bar is finished with an acorn finial. This gateway aligns with the main drive leading from Newburgh Priory, passing through the main gateway with lodges. Beyond the gates, there is a beautiful avenue of mature trees. The gateway is set within a brick wall that extends to the right behind Home Farm and features unusual circular openings. Although the walls themselves are not of listing quality, they contribute to the overall composition.
