Description
This is a milepost located approximately 350 metres north of Birch House in North Yorkshire, dating from the late 19th century. It was made by Mattisons of Bedale and is constructed from cast iron. The milepost has a triangular shape with a sloping upper surface. On the left face, it indicates "Malton 12 miles" beneath a pointing hand, while the right face shows "Helmsley 4 miles" beneath a similar pointing hand. The manufacturer's name is found on the rear of the milepost.
