Description

Oswaldkirk Hall is a house built around 1690, with an earlier wing, originally constructed for William Moor. It features hammer-dressed limestone and a Westmorland slate roof. The main entrance, which used to be centrally located, has been moved to the side of the house. To the right is a service wing, likely a remnant of an earlier building on the same site.

The main house is two storeys tall with attics and consists of five bays. It has a plinth and rusticated quoins. There are steps leading to a glazed door set in an eared doorcase beneath a broken segmental pediment, flanked by sash windows with glazing bars in architraves. A band runs along the first floor, which also features sash windows with glazing bars in eared architraves. Decorated cast-iron rainwater heads and a modillion cornice add to the exterior details. The hipped roof is adorned with three 2-light Yorkshire sash dormers and has ridge stacks.

The service wing is one storey with an attic and includes a 19th-century wooden veranda. It has a sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor and two dormer sash windows with glazing bars in the attic, along with a ridge stack and a bellcote to the right. The gable features coping and shaped kneelers.

Inside, the reception rooms showcase fine moulded plaster ceilings, bolection moulded panelling, and door surrounds with broken pediments. The staircase is notable for its bulbous balusters and massive handrail. The landing features a panelled moulded plaster ceiling with swags and scrolled foliage, dating from the early 18th century.
