Description

29 Lowther Street is a house built around 1782 for Captain Haygarth, situated on a sloping site. The structure is made of small limestone blocks and features rusticated quoins, along with a modillioned eaves cornice. It has a graduated slate roof and rendered end chimneys. The house is symmetrical, consisting of three storeys and three bays, with cellars included. The central entrance has a recessed panelled door topped by a semicircular fanlight, set within a doorcase that has reeded pilasters. This entrance is accessed by steps through a rusticated archway, which has moulded imposts and a projecting keystone above the semicircular head. There are sash windows on either side of the door, with a blocked cellar window below, and three sash windows on each upper floor, all featuring glazing bars.
