Description
The Snuff Works is a manufactory and offices located on a sloping site in Kendal, dating from around 1782, with later additions and alterations. The building features small limestone blocks on a plinth, with a first-floor sill band and a cornice on number 27. The roofs are covered with graduated slates, and there are stone chimneys: mid and end chimneys on number 25 and a mid chimney on the lower roof of number 27.
Number 25 has four bays, with a panelled double door on the right that includes a semicircular fanlight, all set in a stone surround with projecting imposts and a keystone featuring Greek letters. To the left, there are two semicircular-headed fixed windows with recessed aprons and a panelled door that has a radiating semicircular fanlight above. The upper floor contains four sash windows.
Number 27 has three bays, featuring a 20th-century panelled door and rectangular fanlight to the right, with a sash window and shop window to the left. Above, there is a sash window and a 20th-century casement, with a trade sign positioned between. The original windows still have glazing bars.
