Description

This is a wall with bee boles located to the rear of No 45 Highgate, Kendal, likely built in the early 19th century. The wall is constructed from limestone rubble and slate, standing about 2 meters high and 10 meters long, featuring a flat slate coping. It has three round-arched recesses, each approximately 1.25 meters in height and width, evenly spaced along the wall. The recesses are made with large rough voussoirs and are lined with lime plaster; they were used to shelter straw bee skeps during the winter.
