Description
Middle Fell Gate Farmhouse and Underwood are two houses dating from the mid-18th century, located on Cartmel Road in Grange-over-Sands. The farmhouse, on the left, is roughcast with a slate roof and has two storeys. It features a three-window range with glazing bar sash windows that have plain reveals and projecting sills. The ground-floor windows have segmental heads, and the central window on the first floor is narrower than the others. The central doorway is topped with a flat stone hood on brackets and has a door consisting of two glazed panels above four raised and fielded panels. There are chimneys on both the left and right sides of the farmhouse.
To the right is Underwood, which is likely a mid-20th century conversion of a farm building. It has a two-window range with 20th-century casements that also have plain reveals. The right-hand bay includes a doorway with a window to its right, and a chimney projects from the right-hand gable. Underwood is included for its group value with the farmhouse.
