Description

The Ramp Barn and byres, located to the north-west of Warcop Tower farmhouse, form an 'L'-shaped range of farm buildings that were built in 1726, as indicated by the initials T.W. on a re-used medieval window head set into the north wall. The buildings are constructed from coursed rubble with quoins and feature a corrugated asbestos roof. There are three byre doors with segmental heads, one of which on the left has a rusticated surround. A 20th-century door and three windows have been inserted, and there is loft access with a segmental head above. A ramp leads up to the wagon entrance at the rear. The north wall includes two medieval stones with heraldic carvings; the bottom panel displays two shields under hoodmoulds, with the Musgrave arms on the left and the Dalston arms on the right. The same arms are also found in the spandrels of a cusped, ogee window head, which has a later date above it. A 20th-century lean-to on the north side is not included in the listing.
