Description
H. Kearton's shops, located at the west end of Cross View Cottage in Alston, are two properties originally subdivided into tenements from the 18th century, with later alterations. The shop on the left features a rendered exterior, while the shop on the right is constructed of ashlar stone with rusticated quoins. Both shops share a single graduated stone-flagged roof, supported by one stone chimney and two brick chimneys.
The left shop is four storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay front, showcasing a recessed, part-glazed door situated between modern canted shop windows. The first and second floors each contain two sash windows, while the third floor has two paired sashes with a narrow sash in between; all sashes, except for the central one on the third floor, include glazing bars.
The right shop is three storeys tall with two bays and features a panelled door to the right of a 19th-century shop window, which has three segmental-headed lights beneath a cornice supported by consoles. Each floor above has two sashes with glazing bars.
