Description

Two shops with living accommodation above, dating from the late 18th century, are located on the south side of Ulverston's Market Place. The buildings are painted render with painted stone dressings and a slate roof, the right-hand side of which is hipped. They are three storeys high with an attic. Each shop has two bays. The corner of the buildings features quoins with alternating rustication, and a moulded gutter cornice runs across both facades. Upper-storey windows are sash windows set within architraves with torus-moulded sills supported by brackets. The left-hand shop has two gabled attic dormers and a shop front dating from around 1900, with a timber fascia and cornice. The right-hand shop (number 4) features a shallow canopy over the ground floor, a plate-glass window to the left, and a doorway with a moulded architrave to the right. Chimneys are situated between the buildings and on the left-hand side.
