Description
The barn and outbuilding adjoining Ormsgill Farmhouse, likely built in the early 18th century, are constructed from red sandstone rubble and topped with a slate roof. The tall, single-storey barn features five bays and has a lower outbuilding on the right that overlaps and adjoins the left end gable of the farmhouse. The barn is characterized by large quoins and a central waggon entrance with horizontally-hung boarded doors, which are sheltered by a slated canopy on stone side walls. There is a doorway on the left with a segmental arch and an inserted window to its right. The barn also has projecting throughs and square vent holes, along with kneelers and ashlar gable copings, and two louvres on the ridge to the left. The outbuilding to the right of the barn is two storeys high, with doorways on each floor. Inside the barn, there are later, pattern-book king-post trusses.
