Description

Number 17 is an early to mid-18th century farmhouse with an attached outbuilding, situated on the west side of Roanhead Lane in Hawcoat, Barrow in Furness. The house is constructed of cement-rendered red sandstone with a slate roof. It is a two-storey, three-window building, featuring a deeper plan outbuilding attached to the right and a rear wing extended to the centre on each side. A C20 part-glazed door is set within a painted stone surround, featuring consoles and a moulded cornice, which has a loose plaque dated '1716'. Flanking windows and those on the first floor have painted, raised surrounds and C20 casements; the window to the right of the door is broader. The attached outbuilding to the right has garage doors beneath a boarded hatch door. Shaped stone gutter brackets are present, along with a stone end stack on the left and a brick stack at the right end of the house. The right return wall of the outbuilding displays exposed stone and a door with an oak lintel.
