Description

Chase End is a farmhouse and cottages that have been converted into four dwellings. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and the early 19th century, with some alterations made over time. The exterior features roughcast and pebble-dash over stone, with graduated slate and Welsh slate roofs. The building is two storeys high and has a variety of window arrangements on the first floor, with a total of seven windows across the front.

The right end of the row is marked by 'Chase End', which has an early 18th-century stone door surround with a cornice supported by shaped corbels. It features 20th-century casements within stone surrounds and a side door on the right. No.2 Roanhead Lane, located on the left, is likely from the late 18th century and has been altered; it includes a 20th-century door flanked by 20th-century casements on both floors. Nos. 4, 6, and 8 are probably from the early 19th century, each with a door that has an overlight and raised window surrounds with projecting sills. No.8 and the first floor of No.4 have six-pane sashes, while No.6 features a large eight-pane shop window beneath a plain sash. The building has ridge stacks on the party walls, with a brick stack on the front roof slope between Nos. 6 and 8, and a left end stack for No.8.

Inside 'Chase End', there is an 18th-century corniced fireplace on the first floor to the left. A datestone inscribed 'RGE 1703' is located within the rear wing and likely refers to a former building on the right return. There is an outbuilding to the front right of 'Chase End', but it is not of special interest.
