Townfoot Farmhouse And Stables Adjoining,North Of School

Townfoot Farmhouse and the adjoining stables, located north of the school in Lazonby, are likely from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the early 18th century. The building features red sandstone rubble walls that are partly painted, topped with a graduated sandstone slate roof and red sandstone chimney stacks. It is two storeys tall and consists of two bays, with the right side housing the two-bay stables under a common roof.

The centre of the farmhouse has a stone porch with a plank side door. There are sash windows with glazing bars set in painted stone surrounds, which still show the remains of central flat stone mullions. A small fire window is located on the right. The stables have a 17th-century Tudor-arched cross passage doorway on the left, along with two off-centre plank doors in plain openings, a loft doorway, and right slit vents.

Inside, the farmhouse features an inglenook with a heck partition, a firebeam, and a small 18th-century fireside cupboard, along with a beamed ceiling. However, the roof of the stables has collapsed. At the time of the survey, the building was derelict and unoccupied. The right barn and left lean-to extensions are not considered of interest.
