Description
Spitals Farmhouse, along with its adjoining stables, byre, and gin gang, is a farmhouse group located on the south side of a courtyard, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The buildings are constructed from various types of squared, coursed, or snecked rubble. The original house, situated in the center, features an incised stucco front with stucco quoins. An extension was added to the east in the early 19th century, while the stable is located to the west. All structures are topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof that includes outshuts at the rear and has mid chimneys.
The original house is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay front, which includes a central part-glazed door and two sash windows on each floor. The house extension also features two sash windows on each floor. The stable has a door at the rear, flanked by windows, with access to a hay loft above. All windows throughout the buildings have glazing bars. The single-storey byre, which is adjacent to the east end, has a graduated slate roof and features a semicircular termination of the early 19th-century gin gang at the front.
