Description
The coach house, barns, byres, and entrance arch located to the north of Spitals Farmhouse form an 'L'-shaped group that creates the north and west sides of a courtyard. This structure dates from the early 19th century and is built from squared, snecked rubble with quoins. It features a hipped roof covered with graduated slate. The large segmental entrance arch connects the south and west ranges. The west range served as the coach house and is two stories tall with four bays. It has paired wagon doors with segmental heads on the left, two doors on the right, and four windows above. There are steps leading up to the first floor at the south end. The north range consists of byres, which have five doors and four windows on the ground floor, along with four openings with semicircular heads on the upper floor. A large 20th-century buttress has been built against the center of this range. A lean-to garage at the east end, which is covered by a graduated slate roof, is not included in the listing.
