Description
The structure consists of walls, gate piers, and gates that are approximately 80 meters long, located parallel to and 70 meters north of the entrance elevation of Levens Hall. Likely built around 1700, these walls are similar to those depicted in a 1720 garden plan and are thought to be part of Beaumont's original garden design from 1692. The walls are constructed of rubble with sandstone dressings.
In the central low section, there are moulded copings topped with four corniced sandstone piers. These piers support timber balusters that have moulded top and bottom rails, with the uprights set diagonally. The central gateway is flanked by rusticated sandstone piers that feature plinths and cornices, and it is fitted with later decorative wrought-iron gates that have ramped tops and scrolled heads on the standards. Each pier is topped with a stone vase, and similar vases are placed at intervals along the wall. Additionally, there is a small wrought-iron lattice-patterned gate at the east end.
