Description

Lawrence House and Levens Brow is a former agent's house for the Levens Estate, now divided into two houses. The main part of Lawrence House was apparently rebuilt on earlier cellars after a fire in 1708. An extension, now known as Levens Brow, was added to the south, likely in the early 19th century, and a north wing was added around 1910. The building features stone rubble walls, some of which are rendered, and has a graduated greenslate roof.

Lawrence House has two ridge chimneys and one eaves chimney, all with round shafts, while Levens Brow has two ridge chimneys, each with four joined round shafts, and one eaves chimney with paired round shafts. The structure has a double depth plan and stands two storeys tall.

Lawrence House has four windows, all from the 19th century, including one three-light stone mullioned-and-transomed window with a hoodmould on each floor to the right, with the rest being casements. It also has a four-panelled door. Levens Brow features two 19th-century windows, which are two- or three-light stone mullioned-and-transomed with hoodmoulds and decorative leaded glazing. There is a gabled stone porch with a six-panelled outer door and a heavy six-panelled inner door with leaded glazing on the upper panels.

Inside, Lawrence House has chamfered beams and board doors, while Levens Brow retains its original 19th-century interior, which includes panelled doors and surrounds, cornices, and a staircase.
