Description

Spring House is a house dated 1725, built for Lawrence Danson, and incorporates remains of an earlier house from 1699. The structure is made of coursed squared gritstone and features a purple slate roof with four eaves courses of stone slates. It stands two storeys high with attics and has five bays, along with a low two-storey, two-bay range attached at a right angle to the left. The house has a plinth and quoins, with a central glazed door framed by an eared architrave and a plaque above that is carved in relief with the name 'LAWRENCE DANSON', topped by a cornice.

On the ground floor to the left, there are four-pane sash windows set in flush-wood and stone architraves, with the sills lowered. To the right and on the first floor, there are two-light flat-faced mullion windows in stone architraves. An apron panel with projecting jambs connects the central first-floor window to the doorway. The eaves have been raised, and the roof has been rebuilt, featuring shaped kneelers, ashlar gable coping, and end corniced stacks.

The lower range has a gable front with quoins and a board door to the right, which has chamfered quoins and a lintel dated 1699. It also includes shaped kneelers and ashlar coping, with a stack at the gable. The right return of this range has a two-light flat-faced mullion window in an architrave on each floor. On the right return of the main range, there is a half-glazed four-panel door with chamfered quoined jambs and a stepped chamfer to the lintel, inscribed with 'LD 1725'. Above this door is a two-light recessed-chamfered mullion window, along with a blocked recessed gable window. The interior has not been inspected.
