Description

The garden wall to the Spring House, likely built in the early to mid 18th century, was constructed for Lawrence Danson. It is made of coursed squared gritstone and stands approximately 2 meters high, stepping down to 1.2 meters. The wall is attached to the south gable end of the lower projecting range of the house and encloses the garden on its west, south, and part of the east sides. It turns eastwards to form the south wall of the yard east of the house. The wall features rounded coping and includes two gates in the west wall, which have stepped chamfers on the lintels that are similar to those found on the byre range.
