Description
The Crosby on Eden School, dating from 1844, is a red sandstone building with a slate roof. It was built as a National School and cost £350, funded by subscriptions and a grant from the National Society. The school has a single storey and two bays, with a projecting gabled porch featuring a shaped entrance arch and hood moulds. Above the entrance is an inscribed panel reading "NATIONAL SCHOOL" with the date and a wall clock, topped by a corbelled stone bellcote. The windows have chamfered surrounds and hood moulds, fitted with diamond-panel cast-iron casements. Decorative modillions are present beneath the gutter, and the roof is hipped. While the sides and rear of the building have been altered with 20th-century windows and additions, the facade remains as originally constructed.
