Description

The Old School is a former National School, built in 1845 and later converted to a house. It is constructed of ironstone ashlar and brick, with limestone dressings and a patterned tile roof. The building has a plinth, coped gables with gabled kneelers (the north gable featuring a cross), and single gable and lateral brick stacks. It is a single-story building with four bays. Most windows feature diamond glazing.

The west front has a segmental-headed stone doorcase with a flat hood and a six-panel door, flanked to the left by a gabled wing containing a four-light mullioned and transomed casement window. To the right are two two-light mullioned casement windows with flat hoods. To the right again is a projecting gable with a four-light mullioned and transomed casement window, the lower lights originally fitted with 19th-century plain glass. Above this is a recessed datestone inscribed 'MDCCCXLV'. Further to the right is a two-light mullioned casement window with a flat hood.

The south end has a central gabled porch with a four-centred arched doorway and a flat hood. Above the doorway is a tablet inscribed 'National School'. The rear of the building has a full-width, single-story lean-to addition with two doors.
