Description
The Stag Inn is an inn dating from the late 17th century, with additions made in the 20th century. The building features walls constructed of a mix of sandstone rubble, river cobbles, and some brick, topped with a slate roof and 19th-century brick chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and has two bays. The entrance is highlighted by a quoined surround, while the windows on the left have squared stone surrounds. The windows on the right have a chamfer and were likely originally mullioned. The ground floor window surrounds still retain shutter-hinge brackets, but now feature replacement sashes with glazing bars. An extension, added around 1980, is two storeys high and one bay wide, built with similar materials and included in the listing. However, the living accommodation to the right, which has a similar facade and is faced with brick, was also built around 1980 but is not included in the listing. Inside, the inn retains many oak beams, some of which are original.
