Description

North End Cottage is a house and former barn located in Burgh by Sands. The house dates from the late 17th century, while the barn is from the late 18th century. The cottage features whitewashed rendered clay walls resting on large projecting plinth stones, topped with a steeply-pitched corrugated iron roof over thatch. It has a 20th-century brick chimney stack. The single-storey house has four bays and includes a plank door in a wooden surround, as well as two-pane sash windows. The front wall is supported by two buttresses. Inside, the structure showcases cruck construction. The former barn has a 20th-century door in a plain painted stone surround and a 20th-century casement window. There is a blocked door to the left, which has been converted into a window, and a plank loft door above. The end wall of the barn has been raised in height with brick.
