Description

Chappels Farmhouse and Barn is a house and barn dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a barn that may have been built in the 18th century or early 19th century. The structure is made of stone rubble and features slate roofs, with the house being painted.

The north-west elevation showcases the house, which has two storeys and two bays, with the second bay being taller and part of the barn. The ground floor includes a large window in the first bay with small-paned fixed glazing and an opening light, while the second bay has a sashed window with glazing bars set in a former wide segmental-headed entrance. The first floor has sashed windows with glazing bars. The entrance to the first bay features a six-fielded panel door.

The barn has a segmental-headed entrance for a cow house and a window, along with a blocked winnowing door. The south-east elevation has an entrance accessed by a ramp, flanked by two-storey outshuts that have catslide roofs, and a gabled wing with a lean-to outshut. The house has an entrance in a recess, sashed windows, and a single-storey gabled wing that extends as a lean-to outshut to the return. There is a gable-end brick stack. The barn contains fishbone trusses and winnowing machinery.
