Description

MILLOM WITHOUT - SD 18 NE 13/40 Thwaites Mill - II Cornmill and sawmill. Probably C19 with late C19 sawmill. Stone rubble with some ashlar dressings and slate roofs. Cornmill to west has gabled wings to south and north. Small square windows, some boarded, 2 to 1st floor have small-paned fixed glazing, entrances to south and west have plank doors, wing to north built into slope of ground. Gabled wheelhouse to east contains iron and timber wheel fed by enclosed concrete channel to north. Sawmill adjoins to east. Ball finials to gable ends. Large south wing, originally open fronted, now with corrugated iron infill. Rear has large entrance with pentice and boarded window. Interior not inspected, said to retain machinery.
