Description
Drewett's Mill is a corn mill built in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone and features stone tiled roofs, coped gables, and an east end stack. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a four-window range of flush cyma-moulded mullion windows that have dripstones. On the left side of the ground floor, there is a 2-light window with a 3-light window above it, and these windows are set lower than those on the rest of the front. There is also a 2-light window with a 2-light window above it, and a door in a flush chamfered surround with an upper loading door immediately above, also with a dripstone. The upper part features a 2-light window. The end walls have similar attic windows, with a 2-light window on the east side and a 3-light window on the west side. The rear of the mill has a 19th-century lean-to, with an original 2-light window above and below, and a blocked arched opening that was once for a water-wheel, which has been replaced by an Armfield turbine. Inside, there is a very complete set of late 19th-century machinery, including the turbine, pit-gear, three pairs of stones with stone furniture and dressing tools, and most of the ancillary equipment. An earlier mortice crown-wheel is also preserved. The roof structure consists of five bays with tenoned purlins.
