Description

MILLOM WITHOUT - SD 18 NE 13/46 Charcoal barns to west of Duddon Iron Furnace (qv) (formerly listed as Ruined building to west 8.9.67 of Iron Furnace) GV II Charcoal barns. Early C18 with later barn to west. Stone rubble, no roof. L-plan. Earlier barn to north-east has segmental arched opening to gable end and 1st floor opening to later barn. Barn to south-west is later, built into slope of ground. 2-storey lean-to projecting to north-east and entrance with timber lintel. Inner side of south-west wall, built into ground, has large raking buttressees. 2 entrances at upper level. Inner side of north-east wall has coating of slag to central part. A Scheduled Ancient Monument.
