Description

Syke House and Syke House Cottage are two houses situated on Church Street in Broughton-in-Furness. A datestone on the house reads "A & ED/1655" and below, "REBUILT BY/ C N H/1740", indicating an earlier structure and substantial rebuilding in the 18th century. The houses are constructed of roughcast stone with a slate roof. Each house is two storeys high and has two bays. Syke House Cottage has a sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor, while Syke House has sashed windows with vertical glazing bars and horns. The first floor of the cottage features small-paned casements, whereas the house has windows matching the ground floor design. The entrance to the cottage is in the second bay, and the entrance to the house is between the third and fourth bays. The left-hand gable-end stack projects outward. Farm buildings at the rear are of no particular interest.
