Description

Beswick's Restaurant and Cafe is a house that has been converted into a restaurant, dating from around 1760. It was built for Gilpin Sawrey and features roughcast stone with a slate roof. The building has three storeys and a basement, with two bays. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, although the second floor has square casement windows. The central entrance is accessed by steps and is adorned with angle pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, leading to a six-fielded-panel door. There is also a basement entrance. The building has a cross-axial stack and a gable-end stack. On the right side, there is a window with a small-parted casement and a glazed door. The main area is enclosed by iron railings. This building was constructed as part of a planned town square, which is an unusual feature for a village in Cumbria.
