Description

This is a milestone located north-east of Tilekiln Wood, dating from the early 19th century and intended for the Longtown-Penton road. It is made of red sandstone and features a cast iron plate. The squared stone has a rounded top and displays a circular plate on the front that reads "CARLISLE 13 MILES." The stone is whitewashed, with the lettering highlighted in black. Additionally, there is a bench mark on the top of the stone.
