Description
The Gables and Gailyn is a house that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the late 17th century and was remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and has an artificial stone slate roof with brick stacks.
"The Gables," located on the left, is two storeys high with an attic and has four bays, including a gabled bay on the left. A 20th-century stone porch with a glazed door and concrete lintel is found in the third bay from the right. The left bay features 4-light casement windows with wood lintels, while the entrance is flanked by 3-light casement windows, also with wood lintels. Above the entrance, there is a 2-light casement window with a wood lintel. The other first-floor windows are 3-light casements with wood lintels, and there is a small 3-light casement window with a wood lintel in the attic. The gable end is coped and has kneelers.
"Gailyn," situated on the right, was likely a former outbuilding to "The Gables." It dates from the 17th to 18th century and was remodelled in the 20th century. This part is also made of coursed ironstone rubble and has an artificial stone slate roof. It is one storey high with an attic and consists of two bays. A central 20th-century stone porch with double plank doors and a concrete lintel is present, with 2-light casement windows with wood lintels on either side. There is a 20th-century gabled half dormer, and like "The Gables," it has a coped gable end with kneelers. The interior has not been inspected.
