Description

23 and 25 Main Street is a house that has been converted into two cottages. It dates from the 17th century, with additions from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. It has a steeply pitched pantile roof with a single gable stone and brick stacks.

The front of the building, which faces the road, is irregular with four bays and two storeys plus a garret. There is a single-storey lean-to that includes a three-light mullioned window. To the left, there is a two-light mullioned window, and to the right, a tall window in a 14th-century style with two lights and tracery, along with a plain planked door set in a flat-headed surround. On the first floor, there are two two-light mullioned windows and a small 20th-century casement to the left.

To the right, there is a lower two-bay wing with a 20th-century flat-roofed front extension that contains a garage door and two casement windows above. The right gable features a four-light mullioned window on the ground floor, a three-light mullioned window on the first floor, and in the garret, a three-light horizontally sliding sash window in a 17th-century surround with a cornice. The rear of the building has 19th-century casements in cambered arched openings, which are now partly obscured by a 20th-century conservatory. Additionally, there are two small gabled dormers in the roof.
