Description

These are a pair of cottages located in Caldecote, dating from the mid-18th century, built in two phases. They are constructed of coursed squared limestone with slate roofs and have brick end stacks for each cottage. Each cottage has a two-unit plan, and both present as a two-storey, four-window range. Springfield Cottage, the earlier of the two, has a central four-panel door with a flat hood and wooden lintel. The Cottage has a similar central door. Both cottages feature two-light casement windows to the ground and first floors, all with wooden lintels. A central first-floor window has been blocked on Springfield Cottage, and both cottages have stone-coped gables with kneelers. Inside Springfield Cottage are chamfered spine beams and stone-flagged floors. The Cottage contains chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a cambered, chamfered bressumer, as well as a bread oven.
