Description

Lower Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered in the 18th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with some ironstone, and has an asbestos tile roof. The left-hand end has a stone stack, partly rebuilt in brick, while the right-hand end has a brick stack. The farmhouse originally had a 2-unit plan. It is two storeys and an attic high, with a 3-window front. The central entrance is a 4-panel part-glazed door, set within a gabled timber porch and flanked by 3-light casement windows. A small, square, leaded window is located to the far left. The first floor has 2-light casement windows, all of which retain wooden lintels. The gables are topped with ironstone coping and kneelers. A 2-storey, 2-window extension is present to the left, with a slate roof and 2-light casement windows that also have wooden lintels. The interior features moulded and chamfered spine beams and an open fireplace with a boxed bressummer.
