Description
Clare Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage built from coursed ironstone rubble, featuring a tile roof and stone end stacks. The building has a two-unit through-passage plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, presenting a three-window range. To the left of the centre, there is a 19th-century pointed arch door, sheltered by an open timber buttress-porch. The windows are two-light casements with timber lintels, and there is a 20th-century roof light. The stone coped gables are supported by kneelers. To the right, there is a two-storey, one-window, 19th-century rendered brick range with a slate roof, which was formerly a groom's cottage and is connected to Clare Cottage by a single-storey link. Inside, the cottage features an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer, stop-chamfered spine beams, a bread oven, a staircase with turned balusters, and stone-flagged floors.
