Description

Bertie Cottage is an early 18th-century cottage located on the south side of Byfield Bell Lane. It is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and features a thatched roof with brick stacks at each end. The cottage has a two-unit plan and consists of one storey plus an attic, with a two-window range. The entrance is a plank door positioned to the left of center, topped by a segmental hood. To the left of the door is a six-pane window, while to the right is a two-light window from the 20th century. In the attic, there is a two-light leaded casement window set within an eyebrow dormer. The windows are supported by timber lintels. Inside, the cottage has boxed spine beams.
